I have an interesting student issue and not much time to decide. I have student who is doing poorly in my class. We both believe she can improve her performance, but so far she is failing. It probably makes the most sense for the student to withdraw and take the class another semester. The deadline for withdrawing is 5:00 today.
However she is just about done with her paper for the class and believes she has done well. I have not seen it, but from talking with her expect it to be much better than her exam performance. I change the paper topic each semester, so a paper from Spring 2010 would not normally work for Spring 2011. The student has asked if she can use the grade from the paper for 2010 in the 2011 semester. I have not had a request like this before. I am not sure it would be legal with the registrar. I would like to know what other Tipststers think as I decide how to respond. Thanks! Joe Joseph J. Horton, Ph. D.
