A topic that never seems to pop up when discussing psychological methodology
are the ethological methods employed by mostly Europeans
(Cousteau,Goodall,Eibl-Ebesfeldent,Hans Hass,Hutt &Hutt) and American etho
wannabees like Mowat,Forsee,Robert Ardrey et al.
These ethologist do long intensive investigations and observations that capture
behavior in natural settings unobstrusively. The TV program Candid Camera would
be considered human ethological research because of the unobstrusive research
methodology used
and people caught in their natural states.
The American research paradigm is for the comfort and convenience of scientists
who enjoy the comfort of the laboratory where independent variables can be
isolated. This is unnatural.I have maintained that isolating the IV deprives
reality of content.Field research
is probably the ideal way to go.I will bet that medical doctors working in
Haiti get a much better lesson in medicine than writing prescriptions in their
U.S offices.Ironically taken care of the sick in Haiti could also be construed
as a UN placebo plus.Go figure.
