That phrase "feminist science" could well be an oxymoron, if our colleague Allen Esterson has anything to say about it. And he does.
Being a modest man (on this occasion, anyway), Allen has not alerted you to a recent on-line essay of his, so allow me. His article is called "Scholarly Standards in Feminist Science Studies" (without the question mark, which I supplied and which it deserves). I discovered it flagged by the prestigious "Arts & Letters Daily " webpage of the _Chronicle of Higher Education_ and available at 'Butterflies and Wheels". You can check it out at http://tinyurl.com/loony-feminists. It concerns the outrageous myth fabricated and successfully promoted by fundamentalist feminists (FF) that Einstein was really a stupid man who stole his wife's ideas, denied her the credit she deserved for them, and who needed her to do his mathematics. Allen has been fighting an unfortunately losing battle against the spread of this falsehood for the past few years, some of it first expressed in his posts to TIPS. I myself modestly claim a hand in setting him off, by innocently posting on TIPS a comic strip I admired which uncritically made reference to the myth. He hasn't stopped, gaining the respect of real Einstein scholars and the hatred of the FF. What really, really galls me about the story he relates in his essay is that the same feminists who accept and promote obvious falsehoods about Einstein on the basis of absolutely no acceptable documentation, have the audacity to pretend to reject Allen's work on the grounds that it is lacking in scholarly references. If there is one thing we know about Allen as a scholar, it's that there are few as meticulous in providing sources. It's enough to make me want to knock heads, but before I'm accused by the FF of promoting violence against (certain) women, let me say that I'm talking about my own head, and against a wall.
