Do not quote me on this,but there was a time one measurement of learning was 
the savings' method.I am not sure if the paradigm was within verbal learning or 
classical or operant conditioning.The conclusion went somewhat like this-that 
if the amount of trials to reach criteria diminished over time than the subject 
has learned by saving on frequency,duration,and latency. This seems to be 
connected with the idea that speed of learning is a reliable assessment
