Have you ever taken a course where the textbook was written by the prof who
teaches the class?
I know that I have taken such courses at Mizzou where the classes in Social &
personality, and Psych of Verbal Learning and memory were by Russel Geen and
Donald Kausler.
Are there any type of ethical issues or conflict of interests that could be
raised?
It would appear that authors using their own texts in courses would have a
non-competitive advantage over others especially if the poilicy
is to adopt the same text for all sections.
I have known profs to have their own supplementary materials
packaged with texts.
I would imagine that this could be easy cash for those prof authors.
My questions pertain if a line needs to be drawn as to ethical concerns.
Apart from the element of grandstanding that comes with customized texts, how
profitable is this?
Are there tipsters using their own texts in the classroom? Pros and cons of
this practice anyone?
Send me something.
