Watson, an artificial intelligence program developed in the IBM labs
as part of a project on question answering in natural language (apparently,
there isn't much money in building chess playing programs that can beat
world chessmasters but an accurate question answering machine can
replace personnel on helplines and other areas where customers ask
questions -- a significant "revenue stream"). The NY Times has the article:

Watson is not quite ready for "prime time" but it is expected that it
will be in the near future -- a special episode of Jeopardy will air
with Watson as a contestant.

Maybe Kurzweil is right about the coming human-robot/cyborg
integration. Don't forget the oilcan, Tinman.
