Two distinct things seem to be confused here, and I can't tell whether the problem lies with the author of the book or the author of the review. Using wordplay and allusion creatively as homage (or as satire) is one thing. Buying (or cut-n-pasting) a term paper is another. It is not usually hard to tell the difference.
