The PBS special talked about the fault that runs from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico along the Mississippi valley and that was responsible for the change in course of the might miss in the 1800's.
The suggested that particularly cities like Chicago with tall skyscrapers not built to withstand a strong quake, or like St. Louis would be most in trouble. I can't remember the name of the special. Their point, however, did deal with building standards to resist quakes. Hey, I watch Mike Holmes (on homes) all the time and I know all about those Canadian building codes ;) Annette Annette Kujawski Taylor, Ph. D. This has been the subject of a > PBS special and I do find it worrisome. Thanks for the concern but this is news to me. According to 2005 item on CBC news (http://tinyurl.com/wholelottashaking ) Canada hasn't a single death by earthquake since 1732. The CBC says that our building code protects against the force of an earthquake that might occur once every 2,000 years. What PBS special did you have in mind? (My daughter, on the other hand, sits almost on top of the Hayward Fault in San Francisco, considered one of the most dangerous in America. I think she should move back to Canada. She says pooh-pooh. ) As for the current quake, I'm disappointed to say I felt nothing here in Sherbrooke, Quebec. Those who did feel it say it was just Quebec trying to separate yet again.
