The Europeans are back at it again.A team of European researchers have come up
with the idea of a gastric mind band to reduce obesity.Instead of going under
the knife for gastric surgery,this procedure is mental and involves
hypnosis.Obese clients are told to visualize a band around their stomach and
that the encroaching band is making the stomach smaller.They admit that they
do not have the scientific data to back their claims so far.The cost is $3000
and they will begin running experimental trials in New York city.
The idea is not far fetched as it may seem.After al the yogis and
Neal Miller have demonstrated that one can control
autonomic systems.This is also congruent with the cognitive idea
that "if we perceive something as real,it is real in its consequences."
