Here is my analysis from a cross-cultural perspective.
Despite all the talk of individualism in U.S society,we really have an 
"ambivalence" about values.We are really like a nation of sheep following one 
another instead of finding our own pasture to nurture our unique needs.
Ironically we are not individualistuc enough to say "no".
We are likely to feel "inadequate" if we do not have the products and upgrades.
It used to be that kids would be riding their bikes and when time was up to go 
back to the house,they would verbally say "Bye,see you tomorrow." Now they are 
twitting the message.
We are so addicted to electronic gizmos that thinking could be construed as the 
new
self-actualization and the new rich.
