In "The Human Behavior Experiments" Alex Gibney reviews the original studies by Stanley Milgram on obedience to authority (including original film from the experiment and occasional Tipster Thomas Blass providing commentary), Latane and Darley's on bystander apathy (including coverage of the Kitty Genovese case by the prosecuting district attorney), and our friend and hero Philip Zimbardo and the Stanford Prison experiment (showing how Christina Maslach figuratively hit Zimbardo upside the head to have him snap out of the spell placed upon him by the "power of the situation").
The good news is that the Sundance channel is showing the documentary again on Saturday, January 1, 2011. The bad news is that it's on at 5AM. For slightly more info, see: http://www.sundancechannel.com/films/500013451/ The Sundance channel does present "The Human Behavior Experiments" from time to time but one has to check its website for when it is doing so. So, if you have the Sundance channel and a DVR (or are an early bird or, given that this is New Year's Eve, get to sleep really, really late and are sober enough to program your recording device) and have an interest in what I think is a pretty good documentary, then you should watch/record/whatever it. (NOTE: portions of the documentary are available on the web but there's nothing like watching the whole film). -Mike Palij New York University [email protected] --- You are currently subscribed to tips as: [email protected].
