Effective in 2012,I will be asking the major accreditation boards to review the
curricula of Psychology departments to ascertain that
the departments give coverage to the contributions of
Africans,Afro-Americans,Chinese and other ethnicites to the development and
maintenance of psychological science and the discipline.Currently psychology
ignores the contributions of non-Eurocentric sources. With increasing
globalization and the declining significance of Eurocentric cognitive
imperialism, the old capitalistic models that led to the thrusts
of modern psychology are gradually fading. Our digital age has led us to
discover knowledge bases that pre-existed before printing came
as the only sources of verification of information. But this no longer can be
the basis for the justification of the Eurocentric model
In the past academia have had to make changes, for example, affirmative
action, recruitment, staff credentials as conditions for further re-affirmation
of accreditation.
I will contend in my proposals the necessuty of Psychology to be more
focused on inclusiveness instead of adherence to only the cognitive
and methodological knowledge bases from a Eurocentric perspective.
My concerns will also be addressed to the U.S Department of Education, the
Congressional Black caucus, the NSF,and other agencies.
With Black History Month in February, tipsters should devote one class period to
peruse non-Eurocentric contributions to the field as lecture, students'
assignment or "by any means necessary."
