The amount I benefit from this listserv would increase substantially if those making empirical claims (see below) would refer to the relevant literature. Then we could all judge for ourselves the quality of an argument. When arguments resort to claims of expertise or "he said, she said" it doesn't illuminate anything.

I suspect this means I should be able to think for myself and don't blindly follow printed references.
