Since the video was posted in 2008, I'm guessing that she 13 or 14.

Hi folks- we're hiring two faculty members, and as chair, I'll be spending
more time than others with the candidates. What sort of information would you
want to know from the dept. chair?

  Thanks!

  Hi Patrick,
Honestly, I think the candidates should do their homework about your dept.
and shouldn't be expecting you to provide (all of the) information. Perhaps be
prepared to answer questions that aren't readily available on your dept's or
institution's websites. For example, questions about start-up funding for a lab
(if yours is a research-oriented department), whether there might be a lighter
teaching load the first semester (or even the first year) to allow a research
program to get off the ground, and opportunities to develop new courses or to
teach courses that weren't specified in the job ad. Maybe also a question about
where you see your department going in the next 5 years or so.
What an interesting thread. I'm curious about what others will offer!

In addition to Julie's excellent suggestions, I would inquiry about the
following: The character of faculty-faculty relations within the department
(e.g., to what extent do people get along?) and about faculty-administration
relations within the institution (e.g., to what extent is it adversarial). I
would also be very interested in the chair's interpretation of the official
criteria for promotion and tenure. I realize that the latter information is
probably readily available, but I would still be very interested in the chair's
interpretation of what it takes to get tenure (e.g., many departments emphasize
the importance of 'good teaching', but when it comes time to getting tenure it
is the publication record that really counts- and rightly so IMO). Recent grade
distributions for various courses would be helpful as would sample outlines
(i.e., syllabi) from various courses. Also, the ratio of tenure to nontenure
faculty in the department would be useful as well as the % of
faculty who were denied tenure in previous years.

That's all that comes to mind for now.

(She's now 12, studying classical piano with a master teacher from the
Moscow Conservatory...sadly, no time for jazz!)

  Postscript:
Another tipster has informed me that his daughter was playing the piano and
violin at age 9,but he does not have a video.

I have chaired quite a few searches (and my husband as Clinical has chaired
many as well).

How am I going to be evaluated - yearly evals, pretenure reviews, etc
Teaching expectations - course load, class size, TAs, types of classes
Advising expectations - number, what courses do our students take
Research expecations - start up funds, space, publishing
Committee expectations - how many, at what level (university, college,
department)
Professional expectations - conference attendence, training
Salary - and any other benefits (time off, insurance, retirement funds)

2)do you call faculty meetings on Fridays?
  3) do department faculty meetings last longer than 15 minutes?

  Hi all,

Last week I asked for your favorite examples of schedules of
reinforcement. Thanks for your contributions! You can find the list
  here on the ToPIX website:
  http://topix.teachpsych.org/w/page/36140077/Operant-Conditioning-in-the-
Classroom. If you have more to add, please add them directly to the
page or in the comments box at the bottom of the page.

This week, I'd like to add your favorite positive/negative
reinforcement/punishment examples. To avoid cluttering the listserv,
visit this webpage: http://titanpad.com/g20igjziW5. Just click where
you'd like to type, and type. At the end of the week, I'll add them to
ToPIX where you can easily find them when you want to include different
  examples in your lecture.

  Thanks!

  Sue
