There's a strong heart connection between Liverpool
and Manchester in England and the American South,
especially New Orleans.
Manchester poet Grevel Lindop and I have been talking
about this bond for a few years now and it led to
Grevel arranging a UK tour for New Orleans jazz poet
Chuck Perkins.
Grevel just found these two video gems...
They were recorded in 1964 in Manchester and reveal
one of the many unexpected ways the unheralded love affair
between these two places has played itself out over the decades.
To all our friends in England, Europe, Japan and elsewhere...
thanks for valuing the treasures that are too often overlooked
in our own country.
