Hi Annette:

I have been using E-Prime for about a year. It is much easier to use than what I remember about MEL. The documentation is still pretty weak. Version 2 has been out for over a year and their manuals are still for version 1.0. The program is still hardware-protected with a dongle. Their official tutorial is mainly click-here, now click-here, now click-there, with little explanation. But, if you fight your way to competence, then you will find it is an easy program to use in many ways.

Here is what I did. I went through the tutorial slowly about 3 times, each time I did more what-happens-if-I-do-that exploration. After two or three such passes I began to get a feel for the E-Prime approach.

The company maintains several programs that replicate classic experiments. They were worthwhile to download and analyze. I have used some of them as organizational models of how to implement a procedure.

There are lots of "intro" links floating about. But here is a link to what looks like to be a good book. I haven't had time to work my way through it. Here is the link:

I know Lel evolved into e-prime and I imagine that after 20 years the support staff has changed quite a bit. I wonder if anyone on the list has any experience with it. What level of comp programming proficiency would someone need. Could undergrad students with no comp sc background use it? Also, does anyone have experience with medialab. How about any other software tools out there for psychology? Biopac? We have a MODEST windfall and thought we'd look into acquiring some general purpose software that could be used by those of us with bio, cog, social labs. Annette Annette Kujawski Taylor, Ph. D.
