The first article is about workers in China, and highlights suicide at 17 out of 1 million workers "Who's to blame?"
Maybe the conditions are better, the nationwide suicide rate in China for women (these factories predominantly use a female workforce) is 14 per 100,000 a rate 10 times higher than suggested in the story headline. I would be reluctant to put an article in front of students that paints such an inaccurate picture in the headline. I generally like Wired, but this headline is pure sensationalism and no matter how much we try to explain in a classroom discussion that the rate of suicide is lower, the message they will take from it is the opposite because of the evocative headline.
