Not that it probably matters to the lay public, but we don't have to be
embarrased by Ablow. He's a psychiatrist.

Subject: [tips] Keith Ablow: Embarrasses our profession

It was a cold winter morning when I first discovered "black ice". I drove over
the top of a hill and hit a car in the rear which itself had stopped because
another car had slid off the road. No one was hurt. As we all waited for the
police to arrive the truck that was spreading dirt and salt also slid down the
hill but was able to stop. 1 month later I was informed that I was being sued
for $800,000. I was to learn that whenever a car hits you in the rear it is an
opportunity to get some money - no matter what the weather conditions were at
the time. Some 3 years later, and after a lot of worry and stress, it was all
settled out of court for a very small sum of money. That's when I decided I
hated lawyers.

After some years I realized that lawyers are people too, and, I supposed, some
lawyers were embarrassed at the actions of other lawyers.

I should be able to apply that life lesson to our own profession, but somehow I
am at a loss when it comes to "psychologist" and Glen Beck's good friend, Dr.
Keith Ablow. In addition to the book he co-authored with Beck, Ablow recently
took issue with an ad which depicted a mom having fun putting pink toenail
polish on her son's foot. Apparently Ablow believes that this will no doubt
lead to homosexuality and other undefined negative impacts on our society.

As if the public doesn't have a bad enough impression of psychologists. How
does this happen? And how come I can't learn from my experience with car
accidents and the law and conclude that we're all just human? This one just
cuts too deep.
