I understand JPSP refuses to accept studies that attempted to replicate the
controversial Bem study of precognition?! My opinion of this journal is sinking
fast. Is refusal to accept replications typical of APA journals, Psych
journals, or other (supposed) scientific journals? We preach the importance of
replication in class, but it does not appear to be actually practiced. Often,
exciting or popularized work makes it into texts, but careful review shows weak
effects and little or no replication. Perhaps some of our journals are best
understood as entertainment magazines promoting soon-to-be marketed books and
conference tours.
