The article on Baker states: "Baker, a professor of obstetrics and gynecology,
has been dean since 2009 and has published more than 200 scientific articles
and 14 books". With that level of productivity, there will surely be those who
will raise the question as to whether any of his written work has
been similarly "inspired".

Subject: [tips] Internet: The good, the bad, and the ugly

Subtitle: Uses and abuses of the Internet (with a nod to Eysenck)

First, let's go with the bad and the ugly (one category):

Contemplate the role of the Internet, in particular Twitter and
Facebook, in the Weinergate story, not to mention a lesser-known one,
similar but actually more outrageous, here in Canada around the same
time (see
http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Canada/2011/05/30/18212081.html
or search on stories on p*n*s and George Lepp).

Then consider the disturbing story of the "Gay girl in Damascus"
(see http://tinyurl.com/3vqlsqn ).

Blame the Internet.

Now consider the good. Dean Baker delivered a terrific convocation
address at the University of Alberta on Friday. Only it wasn't his.
Guess how he got caught, almost immediately.

His "apology" was dreadful. He did it because he was "inspired" by
the Stanford address he lifted, and the true author was ok with the
unattributed use (he says he called to apologize, and was told "no
problem"). As one student noted, try that as an excuse when you're a
student, and what you get is expelled.

Good on the Internet.
