I think sometime last week someone (Mike Palij?) posted some links about the documentary titled Project Nim. I just saw it and thought it was very good and that many of you would enjoy it as well. You can view the trailer for the documentary at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_vha0FI0j8&feature=related . NPR has a review of it at: http://www.npr.org/2011/07/08/137650043/project-nim-a-chimp-learns-and-humans-dont and this past week there was a 'Fresh Air' segment featuring a couple of the individuals who were interviewed for and appeared in the documentary: http://www.npr.org/2011/07/20/138467156/project-nim-a-chimps-very-human-very-sad-life . What I find interesting about this documentary is not only the story about poor Nim, but also the various other topics it touches on: Ethics of research with chimps and other animals, good vs. poor science, and, yes, "it was the 70s".
Sorry if I am duplicating (plagiarizing!?) material from Mike's (or whoever it was) post, but I really feel that this documentary should be on your list of "must watch" at some point.
