I wonder if there is anything that can be done to change this as it probably
reflects as SAGE policy but anyone have any sense of a grass-APS might help?

Frankly because we get sage publications as a subscription from our university
I was not aware of this and I have to say I don't like it, now that I know.

Of course, like most financially motivated moves they have us over a barrel. I
am sure that APA is not losing any sleep over the loss of my membership and I
know that APS would also not do so.

This is old news (it happened at the end of 2009 when Sage took over
publication of the APS journals) but I just became aware of it when I was
looking for some research. I am a member of APS so it doesn’t affect me
personally but I like my students to have access to Psychological Science
online for various exercises and labs and to research their topics. All of the
APS journals were removed from EBSCO and all other databases and made available
only through a special subscription to a Sage database. This move is not likely
to affect many faculty or researchers who will still have access to the APS
journals through their memberships but it makes the latest empirical
psychological research unavailable to many students. In order to get access to
these journals, our library would have to pay $4500 a year for access to the
four APS journals through a Sage database. That is probably fine for most large
university libraries but that is a major cost for smaller institution
libraries. Oh, we could get it on microfiche for $300 a year but I would put
my personal copies of the journal on reserve before paying for microfiche. I
don’t know how this is working out for APS and Sage but I have to say it is a
losing proposition for my students.
