In today's WebMD's enewsletter there is a story on the discovery of an
"optimism gene". Here is a link to the WebMD article:
http://www.webmd.com/balance/news/20110916/optimism-partly-in-your-genes?ecd=wnl_sxr_092411&print=true

The research was supervised by psychologist Shelly Taylor and UCLA
has released a press release about the research; see:
http://newsroom.ucla.edu/portal/ucla/ucla-life-scientists-discover-215259.aspx

For those of you who aren't satisfied with second-hand media accounts,
here's a link to the article that reported the research in the journal
"Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences"; see:
http://www.pnas.org/content/early/2011/08/30/1113137108.abstract

For those folks that feel like they want to punch in the face people who
are over the top optimistic, happy-happy types who see certain events
(e.g., disasters, the coming zombie apocalypse, etc.) as "opportunities"
instead of really bad things, don't worry, it's only your genes. ;-)
