Given that the resources of the news divisions of the major U.S. TV networks have been cutback significantly in the past decades, that foreign news bureaus have been closed, and things need to be done on the cheap -- especially for "light news" that passes as "infotainment" -- it was probably a lot easier to go to Queens, NY which has a diverse Asian population instead of, say, Shanghai or Hong Kong. Outside of some "big-brained" academic types, who would notice or care?
