I don't know about the Google desktop (never used it) but if you have a new laptop you're probably running Windows 7. If you click on the round windows logo in the lower left hand corner you get a menu in which the very bottom option is a search field. Here you can type anything and it will search among emails, documents, programs, etc. Sounds similar to what you're looking for. Marie

When I try to install it on my new laptop, it ends up being something entirely different--instead it's a sidebar that lets me do web searching. What am I missing?
