Ken: When I was at Wichita State in the earrly 1970s, some members of WSU Shockers football team perished in a plane crash over Loveland Pass in Colorado. The team was on its way to play Utah State.I lost many dear friends.I think the Wichita State crash preceded the Marshall incident. My surmise is that the phrase is a reference to the movie "We are Marshall" which tells the story of a plane crash that killed most of the Marshall University football team. The movie is about a community recovering from a terrible event.
