I think that I am expressing the sentiments of virtually everyone in Tipsville that our department's admininistrative assistants played an adjunctive role in seeing that we successfully negotiate our way through graduate school, teaching classes, department and divisional cohesiveness, and getting our paychecks. Many of us would probably credit our administrative assistants for making it through. Some of the AA were remarkably efficient . I remembered one who virtually run the department while the Chair was on sabbatical. Some AA were very good in shielding the chair from faculty-almost like Miss Penny of James Bond fame. But the AAs were also helpful in organizing social events for the department.I remembered one who had a penchant for sneaking in a couple of Jack Daniels and some joints of Acapulco gold and Cambodian red at the Annual department party in her office. Other negatives have been an AA who would order complimentary copies of texts and sell them to book buyers. But all in all a couple of negatives should not override the outstanding performances of our administrative assistants. Some Tipsters may wish to add to this thread. How about the administrative assistant you have now? Michael "omnicentric" Sylvester,PhD Daytona Beach,Florida
