to which Michael Burman protested: > Although I'm fully aware I'm feeding the trolls, I think it's worth > pointing out that I find this post offensive. It's especially > ironic since it's coming from the "multi-cultural dude". Offensive? That's meshugge! It's not even a troll, just Michael S. posing one of his little puzzles for us to contemplate. If one wants to be offended there are enough examples of vile stuff (and some of it staggeringly vile) than to go looking for it where it's not. The question is probably intended as a joke, but the serious answer would be no: In Canada we've had our turkey coma a long time ago, and the US day on which turkeys die has no official standing in Canada. But in practice, I imagine most profs in Canada wouldn't mind if American dudes cut class on that special Thursday. We're very understanding, and dead grandmother claims are not required. And please, please, can we not have a debate about this? Do I have to call someone a Nazi to get it to stop (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godwin%27s_law )?
