I wondered whether I should use "hook-up" but,
given what I estimate the age of the average
Tipster to be, I guessed that few would know what
the modern sense was. ;-)

So, what's the Spanish word for "freakin'"? ;-)

Subject: [tips] Happy Freakin' New Year!

Well, someone has got to wish the group a Happy New Year!
One gets the impression that everyone on TiPS secretly got
together and chartered a place in Costa Rica or similar
topical paradise and left their computer/ipad/tablet/smartphone/etc.
at home, given the number of posts to TiPS in the last week.

Anyway, I just wanted to remind everyone that 2012 appears
to be the 20th anniversary of Tips and, that folks who are
so inclined, should attempt to celebrate the anniversary.
Perhaps with hook-ups at meetings/conferences/conventions/etc
or the "First Annual Tips Pool Party and Barbecue" (which
could also be held at a meeting/conference/yadda-yadda).

Maybe we need a catchphrase to aid in the commemoration?
I suggest the following:

"I only take TiPS!"

NOTE: this is the punch line to an old Jewish joke.

As folks think this over (or get through their hangovers --
anyone got a face tattoo last night?), here's some serious
stuff to consider: At you next poker game, invite some
great apes over to see how valid the research reported
in the following is. First, a mass media account:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howaboutthat/8983988/Apes-gamble-like-humans-by-calculating-odds.html

Well, perhaps it's time to see how good chimps and gorillas
are at Texas Hold 'em. For those more interested in the
original source, that mass media article does not cite it
but I think I've located the primary source:
http://pubman.mpdl.mpg.de/pubman/item/escidoc:927625:7/component/escidoc:1281560/Haun_et_al_Great_Apes_Risk_Taking_Strategies_2011_PLoS_One.pdf

Daniel Haun seems to be responsible for this research and his
webpage can be accessed here: http://www.mpi.nl/people/haun-daniel/publications

And to make sure that we keep focusing on every higher goals
(or just plain sights), check out the astronomical events that
will occur in 2012 that you can look forward to; see:

Last and probably least: for those of you with pets, well,
here's your pets' horoscope: for January 2012:

NOTE: in another article on the horoscope page, Katy Perry is
available again. Plan appropriately. ;-)
