The secret to a super long life (i.e., 110+ years) may be based on careful choice of parents, that is, the genetic material you receive from your parents that contain both common and rare genes that are associated with super long lives. Or so the media reports; see: http://yourlife.usatoday.com/health/story/2012-01-09/Study-Why-some-people-live-to-110/52463714/1
The study was done by these guys: http://www.bumc.bu.edu/2012/01/05/genetic-predisposition-to-disease-common-in-two-supercentenarians-new-study/ And here is the research report that provides specifics: http://www.frontiersin.org/Genetics_of_Aging/10.3389/fgene.2011.00090/abstract However, given that it is a N=2 study, one might want to see a replication before getting new parents. ;-) -Mike Palij New York University [email protected] P.S.
