Way back when, in the early years of this list, I was on it. I don't know if
there is any record in the archives. It was in the earliest years, like 1992
through 1997. Then, I dropped away, probably a change of email address meant I
was not renewed and Bill probably cut it off due to emails bouncing or some
such. Who would have thought that I would have landed a position at the same
school as Bill. Being down the hall from him is lots of fun. Honestly, I'm
amazed he puts up with some of the stuff I bring into his office. I'm not
buttering him up just because he's incoming chair of our department, either.
His creation of this list 20 years back is from the same outreach and
technology solution oriented place that shapes his teaching and how he's
advised me and others in person.

So, while my thank you is a bit different, it's also the same, because it is
all about the same great things about Bill.

Oh, and Happy Birthday, TIPS! I have a feeling you've got a few more years in
you. After all, you've survived Usenet, Yahoo Groups, Google Groups, etc. I
have a feeling that there is no way Facebook can come close to matching the
value gained from simple text in emails. I know Tweeting is a pathetic shadow
of the richness possible here. Let's never end this to go there. Live on, TIPS!

And thanks to YOU, Bill, for your hard work and devotion to this project. May
it last another two decades!

Best regards,
