As to how exactly a stimulus affects a response was once a theoretical dilemma
for learning theorists. The expression "stimulus-response connection" was in
fashion for sometime and some thought that it was a physical connection, for
example,Guthrie. Some learning theorists saw the necessity to differentiate
between the CR and the UCR hinting that the CR is a weaker form of the UCR in
terms of amplitude(
for example viscosity).
S-R psychology implied a definitive relationship, until a dude like Hull came
up with his hypothetico-deuctive analysis introducing all types of intervening
variables/hypothetical constructs into the mix.
It would seem that real behaviorists should be of an S-R orientation. However as
to what is a stimulus and what is a response is a matter for another post.
Send me something.
