NOTE: To ensure we're talking about the same thing, by "blitzed"
I mean the kind of drunkenness that occurs when one engages in
binge drinking.

A paper to be presented today at the annual meeting of the American
Sociological Association (ASA) -- if you're in Denver, it's at 2:30pm MDT --
researchers have found that college students who engage in binge
drinking are happier than students who don't engage in binge drinking.

*Animal House Mode on*
Well, duh!
*Animal House Mode off*

In keeping with the practices of other professional organization, such as
our APA, the ASA had "embargoed" the study until this morning when it
made available the press release available at this website:

http://www.asanet.org/documents/press/pdfs/AM_2012_Carolyn_Hsu_News_Release.pdf

Needless to say, the popular media was quick to pick up on this story
and you can see how they handle it here:

And here:

And here:

And here, on the LiveScience website:

Which also has embedded links to the following article on how female
condom use drops during the first year of college:

NOTE: The research presented here was not presented at the ASA
convention but maybe LiveScience connected to it because it was
about sex and college. If they had a connected article on rock n' roll,
then I could use the subject line: Sex and Drugs and Rock n' Roll.
(Any Ian Drury fans out there?)

Just a heads up for the obvious questions that returning students will
have such as "Yo prof, I heard that binge drinking is good for college
students! Can I bring a six-pack to class?"
