An interesting article in the NY Times reports on the use of dogs in
the study of sea mammals like the orca, specifically, using the dog's
sense of smell to locate the "byproducts" that such animals leave
behind.

Deborah A. Giles, the graduate student who is doing her dissertation
on using "canine-assisted marine research" and does most of the
handling of Tucker, the dog being used, is probably going to have to
prepare herself for hearing the same comment over and over and over
again about her dissertation:

"Hey, that's a a pretty sh*tty dissertation!" ;-)
