Hi

I cannot speak for all of Canada, but here in Winnipeg stores are trying to 
compete with their own special sales in order to reduce people crossing border 
to North Dakota and points in the USA beyond (Mall of America, anyone?).   I 
would guess that border cities are particularly susceptible to this phenomena, 
demonstrating yet again how contagious human ideas and practices can be, no 
matter how much without merit they might be.  Probably some psychological 
phenomena of interest there.
