Back in August 2012 I posted to Tips a newstory on the night time
activities of cats as captured on "Kitty Kams". See:
http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg08310.html

The main point was that even domesticated cats were killers
of many other animals. Well, there are new research results a
and a mathematical model that estimates how many animals both
domesticated and feral cats kill. The NY Times has a popular
media account of the research; see:
http://www.nytimes.com/2013/01/30/science/that-cuddly-kitty-of-yours-is-a-killer.html?_r=0

The research study appeared in Nature Communications and can
be read here:

One of the comments on the NY Time site mention a source that
claims that cats would continue to exist if human beings ceased
to exist. However, a more pressing question, I think, presents
itself:

How will cats fare after the zombie apocalypses?

Reminder: The Walking Dead returns to AMC on Sunday,
February 10. See:
