Michael.

And it has been for the past 49 years. But don't take my word
for it, consider this NY Times article that provides details about
baby names and reports on the work an "baby name expert",
a psychologist (!) by the name of Laura Wattenberg; see:
http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/05/16/michaels-long-reign-continues-in-new-york-and-sophias-tenure-grows/

Now this is the interesting part: the popularity of the name "Michael"
is inversely related to how progressive a state is, that is, the more
politically progressive a region is, the more *conservative* it is in
naming its babies! But it doesn't stop there: it appears that the
age of the mother is a critical factor -- women in politically progressive
areas have their first child later than women in more conservative areas.
But don't take my word for it, consider this CDC study:
http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm5419a5.htm
Note that NY and neighboring areas have the oldest moms.

What does it all mean? I have no idea but, what the hell, it's about
baby names, feminism, and regional differences and those are always
fun topics! For national baby naming trends, see:
http://www.socialsecurity.gov/pressoffice/pr/babynames2012-pr.html
For state by state baby naming trends, see:

You can select the state and time period on the left side.
