This is in regards to the annual TiPSster dinner at the AP reading; in Nancy's absence I am trying to organize this...I never knew it could be so complicated when you are brain dead to organize something as simple as dinner. And this is only after half a day of reading. Sigh.
OK, so I checked it out and the place I thought we could go to dinner is called Cafe Gratitude. I heard about it from an acquaintance in San Diego who was in KC recently and ate there. It is a vegetarian restaurant and the reviews on Yelp are varied--apparently this is vegan/vegetarian nirvana, but for anyone with an ounce of cynicism in them (not us tipsters!) apparently a hoot; as one review puts it, all the menu items have "hippy dippy" names like "I am nirvana" for the nachos and cheese to "I am tranquility" for the vegan grilled cheese sandwich. But if we want good old KC BBQ we can always decide to go to Jack Stack's. According to mapquest Gratitude is .82 mile from the convention center and then it's .76 back to the Sheraton; Jack Stack's is slightly less on both counts. Or we can walk to Gates, which is considerably farther and considerably less elegant. I will put up a notice on the easel in the snacks hallway place tomorrow. In the meantime, I think that tomorrow night is our best window. I want to go to Spamalot on Wednesday and I suspect some of you might want to go to the Royals game on Tuesday (I will be biting my nails, gnashing my teeth and anesthetizing myself with scotch in the privacy of my hotel room watching the Kings game). Thursday is professional night. There is always Friday night if anyone wants to vote for Friday for Tips dinner night. Please respond to me off list so that we can minimize list traffic and because I only get the digest so won't get any responses until after dinner tomorrow night, anyway. I am in Q2, T16.
