My impression is that some labs have had a difficult time independently replicating Dweck's work. See:

Certainly not the "easy fix" preferred by most consumers of "pop science" who might mistake the title to imply that one simply needs to have positive thoughts to excel. :-) The problem we all face is the mass of students who bought into the "talent" myth: They believe if you don't have "talent," you should find something else to do when learning something begins to require serious effort. This myth gives short shrift to the importance of persistence and deliberate practice, which the research on expertise (e.g., Ericsson) indicates is critical for high levels of performance.
