Those crafty French persons who fight with their feet and you know what with their face have created little robots based on house cats (or a cheetah cub) at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). The research has been accepted for publication in the following journal:
Sproewitz, Alexander et al., Towards Dynamic Trot Gait Locomotion --- Design, Control and Experiments with Cheetah-cub, a Compliant
Quadruped Robot, International Journal of Robotics Research, 2013 And the paper can be obtained from primary author's webpage; see: http://infoscience.epfl.ch/record/184991 Several popular media sources have written about this research. First, Ray Kurzweil (if you ask Who?, fuggetaboutit) website: http://www.kurzweilai.net/a-robot-that-runs-like-a-cat Next, the Digital Trends website: http://www.digitaltrends.com/cool-tech/scientists-create-headless-cat-robot-for-rescue-missions/ And the Popular Science website with nice big pictures: http://www.popsci.com/science/article/2013-06/robot-runs-cat Now, I'm assuming that you won't need kitty litter for the little critter but you might have to pick up loose nuts and bolts after it. -Mike Palij New York University [email protected] --- You are currently subscribed to tips as: [email protected].
