Hi TIPSville, I sent some friends the following link of a mind-controlled
drone, http://www.youtube.com/embed/6LWz4qa2XQA?feature  and one of them sent
me the following question/reply:

"This is incredible, I didn't know this research was so advanced.  Did you ever
see the movie "Forbidden Planet"?  I believe it was made in 1959 but this
concept along with other concepts of today are alluded to in this movie, and it
was over 50 years ago.  What interests me is the following, are scientific
research ideas motivated by sci-fi writers or is this a natural progression of
technology?"

I suppose that the answer is that for some scientific research and for science
fiction ideas any causal relationship  can work both ways: I cannot come up
with any examples at the moment, but I suspect that s ome advances in science
are driven by  ideas that originated in  science fiction work and, in turn,
some science fiction ideas  represent a natural temporal projection into the
future  of what  of  currently known  scientific findings.

Any ideas would be welcomed.
