This coming August 11th,there will be a funeral and Memorial service for
Fr.James Peterson,most popularly
known as Father Pete, in Erie,Pa.I am unable to attend in person, but I will be
there in spirit.I probably
would not be the person that I am today without him and his influence.Prior to
my knowing him,I had just completed a couple of months as a novice at the
Abbey of Gethsemani; a Trappist monastery in Kentucky.
Although I was no longer a novice,Thomas Merton suggested that I should hang
around the guest house for a couple of months to meet and talk to Dan and Phil
Berrigan. It was Dan Berrigan who told me to contact
Gannon university in Erie,Pa because Fr.Peterson and George Mische had a
program at the Maria House
for internatinal and immigrant students. They offered me a full scholarship to
attend Gannon in 1963.
And the rest is history.I will never forget my days as a member of the Thomas
Moore club, an the Maria House.
Fr.Pete was most helpful in taking care of our spiritual, social, and financial
needs.Fr.Pete was very caring .He
gave it all,and gained an abundance. He is a saint.
REQUIESCAT IN PACE. ET LUX PERPETUA LUCEAT EUM.
