Yes, it is once again time for the London Times Higher Education World University Rankings and the U.S. surprisingly does very well -- again. The California Institute of Technology is #1. Again. For the 3rd time. But don't take my word for this, take Bloomberg's: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-10-02/caltech-tops-world-university-rankings-for-third-straight-year.html For the complete list of universities, go to the Times website: http://www.timeshighereducation.co.uk/world-university-rankings/2013-14/world-ranking The U.S. takes 8 out of the top 10 but NYC does not make the cut: Columbia comes in 13th and NYU is 40th (Cornell is 19th). Overall the U.S. does alright but there appears to be some concern about U.K. universities; see: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-24367153 But after all is said and done, what difference does it make? These kinds of rankings only permit bragging rights which one tires of quickly.
Still, it is remarkable that a country with the best universities manages to elect the stupidest people to governmental office (well, at least some parts of the country). -Mike Palij New York University [email protected] --- You are currently subscribed to tips as: [email protected].
