I still retain mostly a far West accent (though it picked Seattle rather than San Francisco as my closest place), even though I left California when I was 14. I also get a red stripe in upstate New York (probably similar to southern Québec/Ontario, where I have mostly lived since. And then there's this thing going on in southern Florida, which has nothing to do with me at all. Perhaps that's where a lot of central Canadians retire? :-)
