Few phrases have been as irritating (to me) over the past decade as "best 
practice" (primarily because it is usually deployed not because there is 
definitive evidence of the claim, but simply to block any discussion or 
difference of opinion with the person deploying it). 

Thankfully, it is now on the New York Times' most-annoying-words list
