The media are, of course, idiots when it comes to science. There is a connection, but it is not that Sandy is the "direct" result of a warming climate (whatever that claim might mean, exactly). It is that storms of the strength of Sandy are becoming more common as a result of a warming climate. So, what used to be a once-a-century storm now becomes a once-every-25-years storm, or a once-a-decade storm.
