Note to Non-American Tipsters: In the USA non-Catholic Christians are
a very diverse group and subgroups often follow "unique" interpretations
of the Bible.  One such interpretation is that one's true belief will serve as
protection against harm such as being able to survive the bite of a poisonous
snake.  However, empirical evidence sometimes conflicts with such a belief.

Long-time viewers of PBS may remember that there was a program
on its network based on the 1989 book "Mine Eyes Have Seen the
Glory" by Randall Balmer which had a segment on snake handling
