Dickinson College will have an opening in our Psychology Department for an 
Academic Technician, whose primary duties involve providing research and 
teaching support for the faculty, and managing the research participant pool.  
We are seeking to hire a motivated, organized, person for this position, with a 
Master's or Bachelors' degree in Psychology or a related field.  We are 
especially interested in candidates with experience as a teaching and/or 
research assistant in a college setting, and candidates who have conducted lab- 
and/or field-based human subjects research.

Job Summary/Basic Function


Facilitates faculty and student research projects. Manages the research 
participant pool. Assists in teaching laboratory sections of intermediate and 
upper-level research courses. Oversees departmental displays. Monitors lab 
computers and related systems, and interfaces as needed with IT staff. Assists 
faculty who advise student organizations, faculty subcommittees of the 
department, and individual faculty as needed. Co-supervises student workers 
with the Academic Department Coordinator.
*  At faculty request, assist with research projects for specific courses, for 
advanced students, and for faculty scholarship. For example,


  *   create online surveys;
  *   make audio/video stimuli for use in experiments;
  *   devise data-coding and -entry protocols;
  *   assist with data-coding and -entry;
  *   instruct students and faculty in using research software;
  *   manage group projects in some courses
.
*  Manage department's participant pool.


  *   Solicit investigator requests for participants and consult with 
Participant Pool Committee to set participation requirement each semester.
  *   Provide an orientation to the pool requirement and its implementation to 
students in all introductory courses.
  *   Track and record all approved studies and subjects' participation therein.
  *   Train advanced students in conducting research with the departmental 
Participant Pool and in using software to record participation in research 
studies.
  *   Provide alternative participation experiences.
  *   Notify faculty regarding students' standing with respect to required 
research participation.

*  Assist in teaching psychology courses, including (but not limited to) 
intermediate and upper-level courses in research methods. Examples include

  *   guest lectures and/or instructional media on various Method and Design 
topics. (e.g. SPSS, online survey software, using participant tracking 
software, etc.);
  *   demonstrating how to use IRB forms and software;
  *   class prep and administration help as needed (e.g., create handouts, 
grade assignments, show videos, proctor tests in emergencies);
  *   lab and demonstration setups as needed.
*  Oversee the setup, maintenance, and renewal of bulletin boards and other 
faculty and departmental displays.
*  On request, help develop and update Faculty web pages.
*  Maintain the departmental web and Facebook pages

Preferred Qualifications


Bachelor degree in Psychology or related field; Masters preferred. Experience 
as a teaching and/or research assistant in a college setting. Evidence of 
having conducted lab- and/or field-based human subjects research. Expertise in 
research methods and design, and statistical software. Familiarity with 
instructional software. A valid driver's license.
