An article in the NY Times on "What's the Matter with
Polling?" paints a bleak picture for opinion polling, especially
in elections. The shift from people's usage of landline phones
to cell phones has made getting a probability sample much
more difficult, add in a low response rate and a growing
tendency for people not to tell pollsters the truth about what
they believe or will do and the process comes close to being
useless. The author of the article is a Cliff Zukin who is a
professor of poli sci at Rutgers and a part President of the
American Association for Public Opinion Research.
The article can be accessed here:

Expect 2016 to be a very confusing year when it comes to
predicting what the election results may be.
