Dear Friends, I am very pleased to announce a new online game from the PsyBorgs Digital History of Psychology Laboratory at York University in Toronto. It is a game in which you get to choose which people of the past have had the greatest impact on psychology.
Play is extremely simple: You will be shown a pair of significant individuals from psychology’s past and asked to click on the name of the person who you think had the greatest impact on the discipline. If you need to refresh your knowledge of one of the figures, you will find a short description of their important career highlights, along with a link to their entire Wikipedia entry if you want dig even deeper. As soon as you click on one of the two names, you will get a new pair to choose from. You can play the game for as long or as little as you like. You can quit at any time (though you might find it a little addictive). At the bottom of the page, you will find "top ten” lists that have ben compiled from the thousands of choices you and others have made. As well as a game, this is also a research project. At the very start of the game, you will be asked three short demographic questions and, if you would allow your data (totally anonymously) to be included in the research project, there is a consent form to be “ticked.” (This project has been approved by the York University Office of Research Ethics.) If you’d rather skip all that and go straight to the game, that is fine as well — you can go directly to your first matchup and play for as long as you want. PLEASE SPREAD THE NEWS! To your colleagues! To your students! To anyone who might be interested! Obviously those with an interest in the history of psychology will like the game more, but we want as many different people as possible to play it. The more the merrier! Happy playing! Chris …..
